Leopold Leutgeb

Leopold Leutgeb (born April 29, 1891 in Retz , Lower Austria ; † November 25, 1948 in Bern , Switzerland ) was an Austrian clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and briefly a politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP).

Life

After attending elementary school and high school in Hollabrunn , Leutgeb entered the seminary in Vienna , where he studied theology . Since 1912 he was a member of the Catholic student association KÖHV Amelungia Vienna. He also passed the teaching examination for religion at high schools. In 1916 Leutgeb was ordained a priest in Vienna . After two years in which he had worked as a cooperator in Fischamend and Guntramsdorf , in 1918 he took over the parish of St. Stephan in Baden as pastor . Leutgeb was also active in the Catholic Volksbund.

In the 1920s, Leugbeb was one of the founders of the Christian Social Party in Baden and the surrounding area. In October 1931 Leutgeb was elected to the National Council for the CSP , to which he was to belong until February 1934.

After the annexation of Austria , Leutgeb was deposed as a teacher by the National Socialists in 1938. Shortly afterwards he fled via Italy into exile in Switzerland. Leutgeb died in Bern in November 1948 at the age of 57.
