St. Joseph's Church in Neheim-Bergheim

The Catholic parish church of St. Joseph is a characteristic church building in Bergheim , a part of the Neheim district in Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The Bergheim district was built after the Second World War . The place is above the Ruhr valley on a hill across from Neheim.

The building with an elongated nave and a recessed rectangular choir was built from 1951 to 1952 according to plans by the architects Josef Berting & Paul Perle. The gable side is characterized by three arched portals . In front of it there is an extensive forecourt. The plastered walls are structured by arched windows. The square tower is crowned with a tent roof. The walls are divided by two arched sound openings .

In the interior, the nave and the choir are separated by a semicircular triumphal arch . Flat ceilings with crossbeams that rest on side consoles and long timbers were drawn in. The wall pillars in the nave are provided with blind arches , those in the rear gallery area are extended up to the ceiling and thus form side niches in which the organ stands. The glass pictures under the gallery were made by Christian Göbel.

Furnishing

  • The interior of the chancel was created in 1969 by Wilhelm Winkelmann.
  • The figures of Maria and Josef are works by Heinrich Lückenkötter from the period 1953 to 1957.
