Leopold Nagel (born September 1, 1818 in Horn , Lower Austria ; † December 18, 1895 in Klagenfurt ) was Mayor of Klagenfurt.

Leopold Nagel came from an old trading house in Klagenfurt and, after his father's death, took over the company's business and the “To the blue ball” store on Alten Platz. In 1860, after all the companies had been sold, he retired into private life and devoted himself to the good of the community. In 1863 he was councilor and deputy mayor and from 1865 to 1870 mayor.

On the day of his election, the “Hotel Europa” was opened (Kardinalplatz 8), which became the cultural center of the city. On December 23, 1865 he demanded the return of all entities from the country, i.e. H. of all buildings erected by the estates in the course of time in the public interest. On the basis of a contract with the state, the water pipe, the public fountains, the monuments, moats and walls, the fire station and the theater became the property of the city. In 1866 the construction of the Protestant St. John's Church was completed and the first “Voluntary Rescue Society” was founded in the monarchy. In 1867, corporal punishment was banned in Klagenfurt.

A tragic accident occurred in Mardi Gras in 1870: the roof of the washhouse on the Feuerbach was dented by the load of snow, and three laundresses died. The mayor was accused of not having made adequate provisions for clearing snow from roofs and streets and for spreading the paths and was forced to resign.

In 1881 Nagel became a member of the state parliament and until 1884 he was a state finance officer. In 1885, Leopold Nagel, who was appointed to the Imperial Council, resigned all public and honorary positions and only remained a member of the bachelor federation "Die Zwanglosen". He died in 1895.
