Leopold Sachse

Leopold Sachse (born January 5, 1880 in Berlin , † April 3, 1961 in Englewood Cliffs , New Jersey ) was a German-American opera singer ( bass ), conductor and theater director .

Life

Initially, Sachse worked as an opera singer (bass), mainly in Wagner roles.

He was general manager in Münster , from 1915 to 1922 in Halle and from 1922 to 1933 in Hamburg ( State Opera ).

Sachse emigrated to the USA in 1935 and worked there at the Metropolitan Opera in New York .

A street in Halle is named after him.
