Leopold Schmidt

Leopold Schmidt (born August 2, 1860 in Berlin ; † April 30, 1927 there ) was a German music historian and conductor.

Life

Schmidt graduated from an academic and musical studies in Berlin, worked from 1887 as a theater conductor in various cities (u. A. 1895 to 1897 at the Municipal Theater Hall ) and in 1895 at the University of Rostock with the work History of the fairy-tale opera doctorate .

From 1900 he taught music history at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin .

As a music critic for the Berliner Tageblatt , Schmidt gained a leading role since 1897. Two collections of his reviews were published between 1908 and 1913.

Leopold Schmidt died after a long illness on April 30, 1927 at the age of 56 in a Berlin hospital. While still on the sickbed, he had been working on a paper on the 100th anniversary of Beethoven's death . He left his wife Mary nee Hagen and two daughters. The burial took place on May 4, 1927 in the Luisenstadt cemetery in Berlin-Kreuzberg .
