Leopold Tomschik , also Leo Tomschik , (* July 12, 1903 in Zlabings , Moravia , Austria-Hungary ; † August 17, 1944 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was an Austrian social democrat and resistance fighter against National Socialism .

According to the People's Court , the engineer Tomschik belonged to the tourist association "Die Naturfreunde " (TVDN) from 1919 to 1933 . After moving to Berlin in 1926, he joined the local TVDN group there and got involved in the photo community. He joined the resistance organization around Robert Uhrig , whom he had met in 1938. Tomschik worked as a designer in the Brandenburg aircraft engine works in Berlin-Spandau, where he was able to win over technicians and engineers for the resistance. Tomschik passed on internal information to Uhrig about the construction and properties of aircraft engines, which he could use in the "Information Service", an illegal newspaper of the resistance group around Robert Uhrig and Beppo Römer . In addition, he established connections with like-minded people in Austria. Tomschik was arrested on February 4, 1942 in a large wave of arrests that reached as far as Munich and Tyrol. He was sentenced to death by the People's Court along with Uhrig and nine other defendants. A farewell letter to his wife, in which he tried to comfort her and encourage her, has been preserved for posterity. On the night before his execution on August 17, 1944 Tomschik committed after long suffering in prison and concentration camp in Brandenburg-Gorden suicide .
