Leopold Treffny
Leopold Treffny (born October 10, 1904 ; † unknown) was an Austrian weightlifter . He was a lightweight Olympic participant in Paris in 1924 .
Career
Leopold Treffny began weightlifting as a teenager at the Meidlinger AK Wien . He later moved to the Währinger AK Herkules Wien . At the age of 18 he took part in the Austrian championship in 1922, but was not yet able to place in the front of the field in the lightweight division. A year later, in 1923, he became the Austrian lightweight champion and qualified for participation in the world championship that took place in Vienna. In a four-way battle he finished there with 342.5 kg in 5th place.
In 1924 Leopold Treffny also qualified for the start at the Olympic Games in Paris . A pentathlon was fought in Paris. In this he achieved 425 kg and came in 4th place with this performance. In a two-armed push he failed after a successful 112.5 kg twice at 117.5 kg. Had he overcome this burden, he would have won the silver medal. In November 1924 Leopold Treffny was Austrian middleweight champion . He also won this title in 1925.
No world or European championships took place in the years 1925 to 1927. Leopold Treffny won in 1925 at the International Czechoslovak Championship in Prague and in 1926 at the German Fighting Games in Cologne in the middleweight division.
In 1928 Leopold Treffny tried again to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games. With a 3rd place in the lightweight behind Hans Haas (weightlifter) and Anton Hangel in the elimination, he narrowly failed.
In his special discipline, two-armed pushing, Leopold Treffny also set two world records: on August 18, 1925 with 129 kg and on May 30, 1927 with 132.5 kg.
In 1929 Leopold Treffny is with his family, he married in 1928 and was the father of twins (boys) who emigrated to Argentina . As a weightlifter, he no longer appeared.
