Leopold Vellguth
Leopold Vellguth (born February 15, 1877 in Bremen , † October 18, 1946 in Flensburg ) was a German doctor and Nazi " racial hygienist ".
Vellguth passed the Abitur in 1896 in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) , studied medicine in Göttingen and received his doctorate there in 1901. From 1904–1912 he was a general practitioner in Kirchtimke (Zeven district) and Niebüll (North Friesland). Then he went to civil service in Flensburg and from 1914–1916 to Danzig . From 1916 to 1934 he was a district doctor for the districts of Süder- and Norderdithmarschen in Meldorf .
At the age of 55, he joined the NSDAP on February 1, 1932 ( membership number 959.290). From 1934 to 1937 he moved to Dresden as a medical advisor and head of the Saxon Hereditary Health Office and rose from 1937 to 1942 to the senior government council in the Reich Ministry of the Interior . In addition, he joined the SS as Untersturmführer in 1938 (No. 91.165) and worked in the “ Race and Settlement Main Office ” (RuSHA) in 1938/39 . At the beginning of the war in 1939 he was drafted to lead the special medical squadron, and retired in 1942, except for a time as a company doctor in a Berlin industrial company.
His son Hermann Vellguth was also a "race hygienist".
