Lepismium brevispinum is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet brevispinum means '(Latin brevispinus) short-thorn'.

description

Lepismium brevispinum grows upright, is branched and reaches heights of 1 to 2 meters. The leaf-like, green shoot segments are 2 to 3 inches long, 2 to 4 inches wide and 2 to 3 millimeters thick. Their edges are wavy. The brownish woolly areoles have one to four yellowish thorns 1 to 2 millimeters long.

The individual, white flowers are up to 4 millimeters long and 3 millimeters in diameter. Your pericarpel is bald. The spherical, white fruits are translucent.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lepismium brevispinum is in the Peruvian region of Amazonas used in altitudes from 1,700 to 2,000 meters.

The first description was in 1987 by Wilhelm Barthlott . Nomenclatory synonyms are Rhipsalis brevispina (Barthlott) Kimnach (1996), Acanthorhipsalis brevispina (Barthlott) F.Ritter ex Doweld (2002) and Lymanbensonia brevispina (Barthlott) Barthlott & N.Korotkova (2010).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
