Lepismium lumbricoides is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Lepismium lumbricoides grows epiphytically with richly branched, leaning or climbing shoots on tree bark , which are anchored with aerial roots . The greyish to yellowish green, turning round shoot segments are neither winged nor angular nor flattened. They are up to 100 centimeters or more long and measure 4 to 8 millimeters in diameter. The areoles are covered with short, white wool. The three to eight thorns emerging from it are 3 to 5 millimeters long and usually fall off early.
The white to yellowish flowers appearing to the side are wheel-shaped. They are up to 2.2 centimeters long and 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter. Your pericarpel is bald. The spherical, initially green fruits later turn purple.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Lepismium lumbricoides is distributed in the south of Brazil , in Uruguay , Paraguay and in the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz as well as in the Argentine provinces of Formosa , Chaco , Misiones to Tucumán and Buenos Aires in seasonal deciduous forests at altitudes of up to 1900 meters. It was first described as Cereus lumbricoides in 1839 by Charles Lemaire . Wilhelm Barthlott placed them in the genus Lepismium in 1987 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
