The Lerchenberg coat of arms

The municipality of Lerchenberg was a short-lived municipality in the Eisenach district in West Thuringia , which existed from December 10, 1991 to June 30, 1994 and was then incorporated into the city of Eisenach .

history

Already in the late 1980s an inevitable enlargement of the Eisenach city area became apparent, after which in the 70s and 80s the new building area "Kuhgehänge" had already extended the built-up city area to the southern edge of the autobahn . In the neighboring towns to the north, especially in Stregda immediately north of the autobahn, defiance and resistance arose against a formal incorporation into Eisenach, people felt themselves to be victims and wanted to preserve their village identity. That is why a local patriotic citizens' initiative was founded in Stregda in 1989 with the aim of fending off state-ordered incorporation. With the political change in autumn 1989 there was a real chance to rebuild the traditional structures in the region.

As a means of pressure to protect their interests, the communities of Stregda, Neukirchen , Berteroda and Madelungen chose (with democratic confirmation) the formation of a large community , later a unified community , which was formed on December 10, 1991 under the name "Lerchenberg".

The eponymous mountain is partly in the districts of Madelungen, Neukirchen and Ütteroda . The solicitation of further accessions - especially Ütteroda and Krauthausen - was not heard by these neighboring communities.

With the majority of the members of the Thuringian state parliament , the municipal territorial reform was decided on July 1, 1994, as a result of which the incorporation of Lerchenberg with all formerly independent districts and other neighboring places was initiated. The municipality of Lerchenberg brought an unsuccessful complaint against the incorporation to Eisenach before the Thuringian Constitutional Court.

The Lerchenberg community was therefore only a very short episode in the city's history. The four former districts of Lerchenberg are now districts of the city of Eisenach, each with its own district constitution , so that the name Lerchenberg is no longer officially in use.
