Lestiphorus is a genus of digger wasps (Spheciformes) from the Crabronidae family. Eight species are known from the Palearctic . In Europe, two species are common, which are also found in Central Europe. However, they are rare here.

features

The body of the slender digger wasps is finely sculpted. The first abdominal segment of the Lestiphorus species is stalk-shaped and thickened in a knot-shaped manner, which is why they are similar to species of the genus Mellinus . The eighth sternite ends fork-shaped in the males. The antennae of the animals are relatively long. The forewings are slightly spotted.

Way of life

The females create their nests in the ground. The brood is supplied with cicadas.
