Let's Pollute is a 2009 American animated short film directed by Geefwee Boedoe .
action
While cars and machines make it easy to be a good polluter these days, it was much harder before the Industrial Revolution . Although humans have been enthusiastic polluters since ancient times - the first settlers brought tons of rubbish with them to the Indians - the environment has always been able to gain the upper hand against any pollution efforts. Only with the first machines and the industrial revolution could the good polluter finally prevail.
Being a good polluter is easy: you should buy and use things, but never repair them. When disposing of the latest electronic waste, waste separation should never play a role. However, only through joint efforts can the pristine landscape be transformed into a contaminated area over the years. In addition to the cohesion of the people, the support of large companies also plays a role, which surrounds even the smallest goods with numerous packaging and ensures constant air pollution.
Polluters only have to follow a few basic rules: Always buy twice as much as necessary, never use things twice, create twice as much garbage today as yesterday and don't think twice about your own behavior. The speaker closes with an enthusiastic call to continue polluting the environment.
production
Boedoe had worked as an animator for Pixar and Dreamworks , among others, since 1988 . He began work on his first own animated film in 2006. Let's Pollute was completed in late 2009.
The animation of the film is hand-drawn: in part he used drawing ink (“India Ink”) on plastic, the background was drawn with pen on paper. Prepared drawings were then scanned in, colored and post-processed on the computer. Models for the animation style were early works by the UPA , films by John Hubley and short animated films such as The Music Lesson .
The film is presented in the form of educational films from the 1950s and 1960s by a narrator and is thus satirically distorted. The film's narrator is Jim Thornton . In addition to the music by Roger Roger , the film also contains two songs that Boedoe wrote and recorded with musicians in the studio.
Let's Pollute is conceived as the first part of a trilogy that asks time-critical questions. Part 2, Peace is for Sissies , deals with the military and the issue of peace, while Part 3, Try Ignorance , deals with educational issues.
Awards
Let's Pollute was nominated for an Oscar in the category “ Best Animated Short Film ” in 2011 , but could not prevail against The Lost Thing .
Let's Pollute was named Best Animated Film at the 2009 Orlando Film Festival .
