Leukon I.
Leukon I († 349 BC ) was a king of the Bosporan Empire on the Crimean peninsula .
Leukon came from the dynasty of spartocids , the v of the 438th BC to 107 BC Ruled the Bosporan Empire. He took over the rule in 389 BC. After his father Satyros I died, and was able to expand his empire considerably. So he conquered the city of Theodosia as well as areas of the Toreteer , Dandarians and Psesser . His brother Gorgippos was also able to join the territory of the Sinder to the empire, so that Leukon could finally call himself " Archon of Bosporos and Theodosia and king ( basileus ) of the Sinder, Toreteer, Dandarians and Psesser".
Leukon achieved great importance through the export of grain to mainland Greece . Athens even granted him Attic citizenship because of his important contribution to the food supply of Attica . Later authors describe him as a clever, cunning general and ruler.
