Lev Matveevich Seljony

Lev Matwejewitsch Seljony ( Russian Лев Матвеевич Зелёный ; born August 23, 1948 in Moscow ) is a Russian physicist .

Life

Seljony studied at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MFTI) in the Faculty of Aerophysics and Space Research , graduating in 1972. Since then he has worked at the Institute for Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI-RAN). He received his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences and was appointed professor. Seljony has been director of the IKI-RAN since 2002, succeeding Albert Abubakirowitsch Galeev . In 2008 he became a real member of the RAN , of which he was vice-president from 2013-2017. In 2008 he became a foreign member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences . He is a member of the COSPAR office. With his publications he achieved an h-index of 37.

As 2012 the Russian Fobos-Grunt - spacecraft from Mars moon Phobos unsuccessfully returned and in the Earth's atmosphere burned up, Seljony struck a second Phobosmission Fobos-Grunt 2 with the former Head of Mission Alexander Valentinovich Sakharov before. However, the Russian space agency Roskosmos decided in March 2012 to participate in the ExoMars program of the European Space Agency (ESA) and to concentrate its financial resources on it. The realization of Fobos-Grunt 2 will be postponed into the future as the funds are currently focused on ExoMars and the Russian lunar program Luna-Glob .
