Internationally, his semi-final at the Swedish Open was his only success, and in 2016 he did not play any international tournaments, but improved in the Superleague to a record of 26: 9, including victories over world and Olympic champion Ma Long and the top Chinese players Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, and Fang Bo.
He was not given a starting place for the 2017 World Championships , but was used in numerous other tournaments, where he did not succeed in placing a medal. But he showed strong performances again in the Superleague, in which he again beat Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Xu Xin - gold, silver and bronze medalists at the 2017 World Cup - and achieved a score of 19: 8. In 2018 he was also able to improve internationally: He reached the final of the Korea Open , in which he lost to Jang Woojin , but was only defeated by Chinese teammates in all other World Tour tournaments. After defeating the top 10 players Timo Boll , Tomokazu Harimoto , Wong Chun Ting and Lin Gaoyuan in the course of the year , he also achieved a semi-final or final victory over world number one fan Zhendong and at the Austrian Open in November about Xu Xin, with which he secured his first World Tour title in singles. He also qualified for the Grand Finals , where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Jun Mizutani , and achieved a score of 20: 9 in the Super League. In April 2019 he reached a place in the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time, at the World Cup in the same month - his first since 2015 - he again defeated Fan Zhendong and won bronze in both singles and doubles.
