Libero Tresoldi
Libero Tresoldi (born January 18, 1921 in Rivolta d'Adda , Province of Cremona , Italy , † October 22, 2009 in Milan ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Crema .
Life
Libero Tresoldi was ordained priest on May 29, 1943 by the Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster . After various activities in the Archdiocese of Milan , including in the parish of Santa Maria alla Fontana, in 1976 he became abbot-priest of the Basilica of St. Ambrogio, one of the most important and oldest churches in Milan.
Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop of Altinum on 1970 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Milan. He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Milan and later Cardinal, Giovanni Umberto Colombo , on November 22, 1970; Co-consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops of Milan, Giuseppe Schiavini and Teresio Ferraroni . In 1981 he was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Crema by Pope John Paul II . In 1996, his age-related resignation was granted.
He was committed to the implementation of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum for the rehabilitation of the Old Mass. In 2007 he celebrated a pontifical mass in the Chiesa di San Gottardo al Corso in Milan in the old Ambrosian rite in memory of Cardinal Schuster.
Libero Tresoldi was a member of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem for over 30 years . In 1973 he became a Grand Officer and was Grand Prior-Coadjutor of the Lieutenancy Italia Settentrionale from 1974 to 1987. From 1988 to 2006 he was Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy for Northern Italy. In 2006 he was awarded the title of Grand Prior “ad honorem” by the Cardinal Grand Master.
