It also reached the top of the American album charts , was number 7 in Germany and reached number 11 on the British charts.

Libertad was only more successful than the previous album in Great Britain , where it reached number 6 on the album charts; in Germany (36th place) and the USA (5th place) it performed worse. The singles also did less well than in 2004: She Builds Quick Machines reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 , but was not in the charts in either Germany or Great Britain. The same applied to The Last Fight : Also only represented in the US charts, the song only reached number 72 there.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine, reviewer for Allmusic , commented on Libertad that the album was “more homogeneous than its predecessor,” thanks in part to the producer, who made sure that “the melodies are given more weight while the guitars retain their remarkable muscles “ Can show. Nevertheless, he criticizes the fact that the band does not appear like a band: The individual members get the opportunity to play their riffs during the verses, but are then mixed into the background while Weiland sings a chorus that undeniably belongs to him.” Erlewine feels that not necessarily bad, but would like the group members to “act more like a band” as they listened to the CD instead of surrendering to the “weakness of nurturing their egos by doing what they do best " . He comes to the conclusion that the group must "next time show an album that does justice to the past of all its members, instead of harming it . "
