The light blue dwarf iris ( Iris histrio ) is a plant of the genus Iris ( Iris ) within the family of the Iridaceae (Iridaceae).

features

The light blue dwarf iris is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms bulbs as persistence organs. It reaches heights of growth of 15 to 20 centimeters. Both bracts are thinly paper-like, the lowest is overrun with green at most. The flowers are blue and 6 to 8 centimeters in diameter. The plate of the hanging leaves measures 2 to 2.2 × 1.1 to 1.6 centimeters and has a bruise on a cream-colored or pale blue background. There is no clear bay between the plate and the slightly narrower nail .

The flowering time is in March, sometimes even in April.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The light blue dwarf iris occurs in Lebanon , West Syria and South Turkey in the Taurus and Amanus on open rocky slopes and in bushes at altitudes of 500 to 1150 meters.

The light blue dwarf iris is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens, borders and steppe beds. It has been in culture since 1864 at the latest.
