Liebe 2002 is a documentary by DEFA Studio for short films directed by Joachim Hellwig from 1972 .

action

In 2002, several futuristically dressed women dance in one room. A door opens and a computer is driven into the room. Here the ladies register with their code cards. The computer now determines the calculated partner from a number of men.

Back in 1972, the presenter Chris Wallasch is standing at a gangway at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport and asks passengers about their ideas about love in 30 years. But there are no concrete answers. A look back at the time around the turn of the century 1800/1900 shows scenes from Verdi's opera “ La traviata ” on a lake: expressions of love by the young couple Alfred and Violetta. Alfred holds Violetta's hand and sings "Oh, let's flee from these walls, oh let's move into more beautiful meadows ...". Now comes another preview of the year 2002. The couples party begins. Five men dancing in the middle of the dance floor, which the seated women are watching, bored. After a cut to five women dancing, the men join in and lean against the women. The men bend down and the women sit on their backs.

Another cut to the year 1972: The moderator holds a survey on love among those present at a disco event. Most people find love perfectly fine in the now. There are even some who love their parents or budgies. Again in 2002 the faces of the expected offspring are selected by computer. Everything can be chosen, including the shape of the eyes or the mouth. After entering, the women are given a recipe for creating the desired children to drink. This is how one imagines love in the future, but in 1972 it was not welcomed.

production

Liebe 2002 was filmed on ORWO- Color by the artistic working group “futurum” and had its premiere on December 29, 1972 as part of the new series of events “Kosmos 73” (also Jugend-Treff 73) in the Kosmos cinema in Berlin . Guests and contributors to this world premiere were Chris Wallasch and Susan Baker . Although Liebe was made by documentary filmmakers in 2002 , it is not a documentary in the traditional sense, just ajar. In an interview, the director Joachim Hellwig called his work the "attempt at a non-fictional film" in the sense of Dsiga Wertow .
