The Liga Amateur de Veracruz , also known as Liga del Sur , was a football tournament between clubs from the Mexican state of Veracruz that was held between 1915 and 1943 .
This league was generally considered to be the third strongest league in Mexico, behind the most highly rated capital league and the Liga Amateur de Jalisco , the state championship of the state of Jalisco . While the participation of these two leagues was mainly limited to clubs from Mexico City and Guadalajara , the state league of Veracruz was geographically dispersed and the clubs came from the port city of Veracruz and the two cities of Córdoba and Orizaba at the foot of the Pico de Orizaba , the highest mountain in Mexico . With the introduction of the Primera División in 1943, the Liga Amateur de Veracruz was discontinued.
1- The Veracruz Sporting Club merged with España de Veracruz in 1943 to create the CD Tiburones Rojos Veracruz .
2- Iberia de Veracruz (not to be confused with Iberia de Córdoba !) Changed its name to España de Veracruz in the early 1920s and merged in 1943 with the Veracruz Sporting Club to create the CD Tiburones Rojos Veracruz .
