life and career

Lili St. Cyr was first known in 1944 for her appearances at the Gayety Theater in Montreal . Her performances were remarkable, such as a bath on the stage and a striptease performed backwards. The dance “The Flying G” became a trademark, which involved a stage worker pulling a fishing rod attached to her thong and the item of clothing being promoted to the ranks in the dim light. The following quote has come down to us from her: “Sex is a currency. What is the point of being beautiful if you can't benefit from it? ” In the course of her career she has appeared in many films, mostly playing herself or a stripper.

St. Cyr was married six times, including actors Paul Valentine and Ted Jordan and restaurateur Armando Orsini. She also reportedly had relationships with Orson Welles and Victor Mature . She spent the last three decades of her life with Donatien "Lorenzo" Markic. In the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show she is remembered when actress Susan Sarandon sings the line “God bless Lili St. Cyr” in her role as Janet Weiss in the song Don't Dream it, Be it .
