Lilium procumbens is a kind from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ). It is native to Vietnam and is characterized within the genus by its lying or climbing habit.

description

Lilium procumbens is a perennial, herbaceous plant whose stems reach a length of 100 to 150, rarely up to 200 centimeters. The approximately round to ovoid white bulbs , located 8 to 12 centimeters below the surface of the earth, have a diameter of 2 to 4 centimeters, the numerous white scales, which are not covered by a tunic, are narrowly ovate to broadly lanceolate and 1.5 to 3 centimeters long. The thin stem is always prostrate, hanging or climbing and has a diameter of 3.5 to 6 millimeters. The numerous lanceolate to narrowly egg-shaped leaves are 6 to 18 inches long and 1.5 to 2.8 inches wide.

The bell- to funnel-shaped, nodding flower is terminal or is in a cluster of 2 to 3 flowers. They are white, tinged with green, on the edge of the outer bracts there are rarely a few purple spots at the base. The bracts are spatula to narrow obovate and 4.6 to 5.4 inches long and 1.3 to 1.6 inches wide. The thread-like stamens are light green to almost white and 3.5 to 4 inches long, the anthers 6 to 7 millimeters long and brown-orange.

Distribution and habitat

Lilium procumbens is endemic to Cao Bằng Province in northeastern Vietnam . It is found between 1300 and 1500 meters in primary mixed forests (including Pseudotsuga sinensis ) lying down, hanging or climbing on karst limestone rocks. It is common there on steep rocky slopes and shady cliffs near mountain peaks, and it often grows lithophytically .

The species is considered rare and is classified as EN - Endangered ( IUCN ).

Systematics

The species was March 2016 by botanists Leonid V. Averyanov and Noriyuki Tanaka first described , the holotype was collected in Vietnam in October, 2013. The specific epithet refers to the prostrate growth of the species. Lilium procumbens is part of the Sinomartagon section and is considered to be closely related to Lilium poilanei and Lilium primulinum var. Ochraceum .
