Lilium wallichianum is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the trumpet lily section .

description

Lilium wallichianum is a perennial, herbaceous plant and reaches a height of 90 to 200 centimeters. The onions , which lie up to 30 centimeters deep in the ground, are approximately round and reach a height of 3 to 5 and a diameter of 3 to 6 centimeters, the individual scales are cream-colored, 3 to 4 centimeters long and 1.5 centimeters wide.

The numerous, spiral leaves around the stem are 14 to 20 centimeters long and 0.3 to 0.8 centimeters wide, from the base of the stem towards the center the leaves become larger and more dense, from there to the tip they become smaller and smaller further distributed. The leaves are five-ribbed and the edge is wavy. The few bracts are leaf-like.

The plant blooms from May with one or two horizontally standing, 15 to 23 centimeters long, trumpet-shaped flowers on short peduncles. From the base to half of the length, the flower is tubular and has a strong green tinge on the outside, after which the six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) gradually bend up until the white perianth has a diameter of 14 to 16 centimeters. The spatulate bracts are 2 to 5 centimeters wide, the clearly protruding central rib up to 2 millimeters wide, the nectar groove linear and hairless.

The thread-like, green stamens are 12 to 14 centimeters long, the linear to elongated, yellow anthers reach a length of 1.5 to 3 and a thickness of 0.2 to 0.25 centimeters. The pollen is golden yellow. The green style is 11 to 15 inches long. The linear ovary is 4 to 5 centimeters long and 0.2 to 0.4 centimeters thick, the elongated seed pods, which ripen by September, are up to 10 centimeters long.

The seeds ripen from October to November and germinate immediately - epigeously in a cold period. Germination takes between two and four weeks.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

distribution
