Lilium washingtonianum is a species from the genus of the lilies ( Lilium ) in the American section .
description
Lilium washingtonianum reaches a height of between 100 and 200 cm. The onions are rounded and covered with white scales. They are unsegmented and form rhizomes ; the bulbs are very sensitive after being dug up.
The stem is surrounded by a waxy, bluish substance that can be rubbed off easily, giving it a wintry appearance, like after frost. The leaves are light green and lanceolate, about 0.9 to 4.7 cm wide and 3.7 to 12.3 cm long and arranged in one to eight whorls of three to sixteen leaves. They have a very sharp point and are streaked with veins.
The plant blooms from June to July with one to thirty strongly aromatic flowers that open before dusk. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) are slightly rolled back. The color of the flowers is pure white with dark purple points, and darkens to purple with age. Each flower contains three carpels and six stamens. The anthers and pollen are yellow, the filaments are green. The seeds ripen in elongated 2.7 cm to 5.8 cm bolls from.

Lilium washingtonianum is native to western North America , especially in the Sierra Nevada in the Cascade Range and around Mount Shasta .
