Lilli Promet (born February 16, 1922 in Petseri , Republic of Estonia, † February 16, 2007 in Tallinn , Estonia ) was an Estonian writer and journalist .

Life

Lilli Linda Promet was born as the daughter of the Estonian painter Aleksander Promet (1879–1938) in the southeastern Petserimaa district ( Pechur district ), which belonged to the Republic of Estonia in the interwar period .

After her school education in Tallinn, she studied art ceramics from 1935 to 1940 at the State School of Applied Arts in Tallinn. 1940/41 and from 1944 to 1951 she worked as a journalist in the Estonian SSR . During the German occupation of Estonia (1941-1944) Promet was active in Leningrad in the Estonian-language program of the Soviet radio.

Lilli Promet appeared as one of the most prolific Estonian writers and poets in the 1950s. Her short prose and her literary collages in particular attracted attention. Her works have been translated into several languages.

Her three novels - Meesteta küla ( "the village without men", 1962), Primavera (1971) and tüdrukud taevast ( "The Lady in the sky", 1979) - have with the tragic fate of the Estonians in or after the Second World War to to do. Primavera was translated into German and printed in the GDR . Two preliminary reviews and an announcement in the afterword of the German edition of Resting Tiger were published before the delivery was stopped by the GDR authorities, apparently because of the political explosiveness of the material.

Lilli Promet was a member of the Communist Party of Estonia (EKP) during the Soviet occupation of Estonia . In 1971, Promet received the Estonian SSR Honored Writer Award. In 1989 she became an honorary member of the Estonian Cinema Association.

Promet was married to the Estonian writer Ralf Parve (1919–2011). Both sons were the Estonian journalist, historian and politician Ralf R. Parve (1946-2008), who was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) from 1992 to 1995 .
