Ralf Parve (born June 25, 1919 in Rakvere , † April 29, 2011 in Tallinn-Nõmme ) was an Estonian writer.

Life

Ralf Parve graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1938 . He then worked as a journalist from 1938 to 1941. As early as 1937 he made his debut as a writer with prose literature .

During the Second World War Parve fought in the Estonian Rifle Association, an Estonian-Soviet unit of the Red Army . In 1945 he joined the Estonian Writers' Union. There he headed the department for children's and youth literature.

From 1944 to 1951 Parve worked again as a journalist before devoting himself entirely to writing prose, poetry and drama . In addition, he wrote numerous columnist articles, translated (including from the German Hölderlin , Weerth and Heine ) and authored literary articles. While Parve's works were also characterized by Soviet pathos in the 1940s and 50s, in later years they were shaped by a generally humanistic attitude.

Parve's entertaining travelogues, which he wrote together with his wife, the Estonian writer Lilli Promet (1922–2007), also became known. Both sons were the Estonian journalist, historian and politician Ralf R. Parve (1946-2008), who was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) from 1992 to 1995 .

In 1959 Parve was awarded the Honored Writer of the Estonian SSR . In 1969 he received the State Prize of the Estonian SSR for the poetry selection collection Tuulenooled .

From 1947 to 1989 Parve was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
