Lilly Wood & the Prick is a French folk pop duo .

Band history

A mutual friend brought the singer Nili Hadida and the guitarist Benjamin Cotto together in 2006 . They discovered their common musical streak and began to write songs. They published their first pieces together on the Internet. A cover version of the Santigold song Les Artistes caught the attention of the musician Pierre Guimard, who then released her first EP on his label Choke Industry in 2008 with the title Lilly Who and the What? published.

It took another two years for the debut album Invincible Friends to be completed. In June 2010 it first rose to number 57 and showed a constant up and down in the French album charts. This was also promoted by the fact that songs from it were used in advertising for Virgin Radio and Guerlain . With the new edition in February 2011 with the additional bonus track This Is a Love Song , which also made it into the single charts, the album reached its highest position at number 30. All in all, it stayed in the top 200 for two years. At the Victoires de la Musique , the most important French music award, Lilly Wood & the Prick were awarded the Audience Award as Newcomer of the Year for this success.

The duo's second album, entitled The Fight , was released at the end of 2012. It reached number 16 in France and also placed in the Belgian charts.

Lilly Wood & the Prick then played at many festivals in Europe and also performed in Australia in early 2014. Better known outside the French-speaking area became the duo in spring 2014. The German DJ Robin Schulz , who previously Mr Probz discovered made a remix of the song Prayer in C on. The song comes from the debut album Invincible Friends and also contains a flute part. However, Schulz only took the chorus and the catchy guitar riff for his dance remix. The track was viewed 2.5 million times on its Soundcloud page and a video on YouTube reached almost half a million views in two weeks before the single was released in German-speaking countries in early June. The single reached the top of the charts in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In April 2020, the remix received a diamond record in Germany for one million copies sold , making Prayer in C one of the best-selling singles in Germany .
