Lim had his first international success at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . There he won the silver medal over 500 m and the gold medal over 1000 m. At the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty , he was fourth over 500 m. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he made his debut in Budapest in the Short Track World Cup . He won the races over 1000 m and 1500 m and also took second place in the race over 500 m. In the further course of the season he came under the top ten three times in the World Cup singles and thus reached seventh place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m, sixth place in the World Cup over 1000 m and fourth place in the World Cup over 500 m. He also won the relay in Seoul in November 2017 . At the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he won the gold medal in the 1500 m. Over 500 m he won the bronze medal in Pyeongchang. In March 2018 he won the silver medal at the world championships in Montreal over 1000 m and 1500 m and the gold medal with the relay. In the all-around competition he was fourth. In the 2018/19 season he won the 500 m World Cup with two wins and a second place. He also achieved a third and a first place and fourth place in the World Cup over 1500 m. In Calgary he finished second with the season. At the 2019 World Championships in Sofia , he won gold medals five times (all-around, 1000 m, 1500 m, 3000 m, relay).
