Lin Hung-hsuan

Lin Hung-hsuan ( Chinese  林弘宣 , Pinyin Lín Hóngxuān , * 1942 in Taichung , Taiwan ; † September 25, 2015 ) was a pastor of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Taiwanese Dangwai movement. He was one of eight dissidents (the "Eight of Kaohsiung") who were sentenced to several years in prison following the Kaohsiung incident .

Life

Lin Hung-hsuan studied philosophy and theology at the National Taiwan University and at the School of Theology in Tainan . He first worked as a private tutor, translator and High School -teacher and went to the doctor in 1977-studied theology in the United States at the Drew University in New Jersey . After two years he returned to Taiwan and became pastor of the Presbyterian Church and editor of the magazine " Taiwanische Kirchen-Nachrichten " ( Chinese  台灣 教會 公報 , Pinyin Táiwān Jiàohuì Gōngbào ).

In 1979, Lin became general manager of the Kaohsiung bureau of Formosa magazine, which was founded as the mouthpiece of the Dangwai movement in opposition to the one-party Kuomintang dictatorship . After the Kaohsiung Incident of December 10, 1979, Lin was arrested as one of the "Eight of Kaohsiung" and sentenced to 12 years in prison by a military court, but was released early in 1986 for health reasons, after which he was transferred to Neipu im Pingtung County .

In 1992, Lin intended to run as a non-party candidate for entry into the Legislative Yuan for the Kaohsiung South constituency. However, he withdrew his candidacy out of consideration for Huang Chao-hui , the candidate of the Democratic Progressive Party .

Before the Taiwanese presidential election in 2000 , Lin caused a sensation when he supported Lien Chan , the candidate of the ruling Kuomintang party, in an advertisement .

In July 2005, Lin was hired as a political advisor by President Chen Shui-bian and remained in this position until 2008.
