The Lincoln Center Cultural Center in Lincoln Square

Lincoln Square is the name of both a square and the neighborhood that surrounds it, in the New York borough of Manhattan .

Lincoln Square is on the Upper West Side at the intersection of Broadway and Columbus Avenue between West 65th Street and 66th Street .

This area is connected to the New York subway network by the 66th Street-Lincoln-Center subway stop (IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue Line).

history

West of Columbus Avenue and Broadway, this neighborhood was similarly shabby as Hell's Kitchen earlier to the south and as depicted in West Side Story . The construction of the Lincoln Center cultural center, and more recently Trump Place and other high-rise apartment buildings, gentrified the west end of Lincoln Square.

Lincoln Square BID takes care of tourist information, cleaning the sidewalks, and security.

The origin of the name is still not clear.

Cultural center

This district also houses the Lincoln Center cultural center with the Metropolitan Opera (MET for short), the American Ballet Theater , the New York Philharmonic and their concert hall, Avery Fisher Hall , the New York State Theater , the productions of the New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera shows. The Music Conservatory and Drama School Juilliard School , the Vivian Beaumont Theater , the Film Museum of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Rose Theater of the Institution Jazz at Lincoln Center (artistic director: Wynton Marsalis ) are also located here.
