Linda Clifford
Linda Clifford (born June 14, 1944 or 1948 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American disco and soul singer .
Career
Linda Clifford was one of the most influential singers in disco music from 1977 to the mid-1980s. During this time she achieved four number one successes in the American disco charts: If My Friends Could See Me Now (1978), Red Light (from the soundtrack to the film Fame ), Shoot Your Best Shot (1980) and Don 't Come Crying to Me (1982). A disco remake of the Simon and Garfunkel classic Bridge over Troubled Water was also successful in Europe in 1979. After The Heat in Me (1985) she paused for a few years and only recorded records very sporadically. Clifford also found attention in the R&B genre: her single (It's Gonna Be) A Long Long Winter (1974) was a small success in the corresponding charts in the USA (No. 75). The mid-tempo piece Runaway Love is her biggest hit there (3rd place). In 1980 a duet LP followed with Curtis Mayfield , who had signed Clifford to his label Curtom in 1977 and also produced some of their records. In addition, the album was I'm Yours by Isaac Hayes produced.
Clifford made a modest comeback from 1999 with the house titles Wanna Give it Up (with DJ Ralphi Rosario ) and Changin ' (2000), which brought Clifford back into the top 20 of the American disco charts. In the following years her albums were remastered between 1977 and 1980 and released on CD. Clifford continues to perform live with her disco tracks, especially in front of a loyal gay audience. Among other things, she was a star guest at the 2007 Gay Pride in San Francisco.
Private
Linda Clifford has been married to jazz percussionist Nick Coconato since 1978. They have two children together: Daughter Gina (* 1980) lives in Los Angeles and works as a singer. Son BJ is also a musician.
