Linda Saul

Linda Saul (* May 4. . Jul / 17th May  1907 greg. In Tartu , Livonia , † the 30th March 1997 in Tallinn , Estonia ) was an Estonian conductor .

Life and music

Linda Saul's maiden name was Linda Saar. From 1927 to 1931 she studied choral conducting with Joosep Aavik and singing with Nikolai Sternberg at the Tallinn Conservatory . From 1929 to 1948, Linda Saul was one of the first Estonian women to be a professional conductor, concertmaster and musical director at various stages in Tallinn. In addition, she taught musical subjects in the Estonian capital from 1944 to 1986.

Awards

In 1970 Linda Saul received the “Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR ” award . In 1979 she was awarded the annual Music Prize of the Estonian SSR.

Private life

Linda Saul is the mother of the Estonian conductor Peeter Saul (1932–2014) and the actor Jaan Saul (1936–1966).
