“Marx was a great man, standing upright between heaven and earth, whose ideological system, established throughout his life, awakened all the sleeping proletariats around the world and profoundly influenced the historical development of the world, [and also] an ordinary one Flesh and blood man. Announcement and preview

The announcement of the animated series aroused international media interest. It was reported by major newspapers and media from Chile, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines and Spain, as well as in the Paraguayan Última Hora ; Peruvian La República and RPP ; Philipphine The Manila Times ; The announcement "has taken the web by storm," said Animation Magazine's Mercedes Millingan . A day after the promotional video was released, it was seen 211,000 times on Bilibili and over 41,000 times on Twitter, and 37,000 users followed the series page to get a notification when the animated series becomes available. However, some internet users were skeptical and stated that the portrayal of the main characters was "too good to be true". Comments have also been made on Marx's handwriting, which appears much neater compared to reality.

The Chinese production of a Marx series was mostly considered propaganda , with Mandy Zuo of the South China Morning Post emphasizing how "his image was a common feature of official propaganda year-round." Didi Tang, who wrote for The Times , found it in line with previous government productions such as the 2018 television talk show 马克思 是 对 的 (Pinyin: Mǎkèsī shì duì de, Marx is right ). He called it "Attempt by the ruling party to arouse an interest in Marx among young people" in a context in which the Chinese Generation Y is not entirely satisfied with the working conditions. Millingan, on the other hand, felt that it was simply in line with the popularity of the concepts of socialism and communism among the younger generations, and that it was "only a matter of time before this trend found its way into animation".

The animated series received a rating of two out of five stars on the Chinese network Douban, where users can create and rate content for films, TV series and music.

Deutschlandfunk Kultur certified Ling Feng Zhe as “political education in animation”. “In seven parts, the Chinese video platform Bilibili turns the German philosopher and economist into a real superhero while conveying propaganda .” Up until February 2019, the cartoon was viewed 5 million times on Bilibili.
