Lingbo is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province County Gävleborg , on the south of the historic province of Hälsingland near the border with Gästrikland .
location
Lingbo belongs to the municipality of Ockelbo . The place is about 50 km as the crow flies northwest of the provincial capital Gävle and about 20 km north of the Ockelbo community center on the western shore of the Lingan lake, through which the Gopån river flows. Lingbo, located in the forest area of Ödmården, is the second largest town in the municipality after its central town Ockelbo.
The place has a train station on the railway line from Gävle to Ånge ( Norra stambanan , route kilometer 56), part of the most important connection from central Sweden to the north. Provincial road 272 runs through Lingbo and runs parallel to European route 4 from Gysinge via Sandviken and Ockelbo and further north connects to state road 83 towards Bollnäs , Ljusdal and Ånge.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1436 as Lingabodher . In the 19th century a sawmill and various woodworking companies were established, after the construction of the railway in 1881 a foundry with a “mechanical workshop” (Lingbo Verkstäder) .
The current white wooden church of Lingbo was consecrated in 1829. The place initially belonged to the parish of Skog and only became the center of an independent parish in 1923.
The population of the place sank since the middle of the 20th century (1960 it was 769) by almost half.
economy
There are a number of smaller craft and other businesses in Lingbo. Many residents commute to the nearest larger cities Gävle and Bollnäs, which can be reached by train in half an hour. Tourism plays a certain role in summer: there is a campsite on Lake Lingan.
