The Line 2 ( "Yellow Line") of the Delhi Metro is part of the Metro system, the Indian capital Delhi . It consists of 37 metro stations from Samaypur Badli in Delhi to HUDA City Center in the neighboring city of Gurgaon to the south . With a length of currently 48.8 kilometers, it is the second longest metro line in Delhi. The route runs largely underground within Delhi and passes under the congested city center. The four-kilometer underground section from Vishwa Vidyalaya to Kashmere Gate was the first section of the Delhi Metro, which opened on December 20, 2004. It was built by the Kumagai-Skanska-HCC-Itochu Joint Venture (KSHI-JV). The line runs in a north-south direction and connects the center with the surrounding area.

Depots

The line has two depots in Timarpur and Sultanpur. The Timarpur Depot in the north of Delhi went into operation in 2004 with the first section of the route. The Sultanpur Depot in the southern area was opened in 2010 with the phase II extension.

Possible extensions

As a possible extension in the south, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed a route from HUDA City Center to Dwarka Sector 21. Most of this route would run in Gurgaon, Haryana State, and then connect to the existing terminus of Line 3 / Blue Line of the Delhi Metro. But since part of it is also in Delhi, the line would have to be operated in cooperation with DMRC. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) carried out a feasibility study for this route in 2017. A shorter route to the train station in Gurgaon and the present longer one were examined. The residents of Gurgaon have clearly spoken out in favor of the longer route that connects a larger part of Gurgaon.

The proposed route would be 27.5 km with 23 stations and coming from HUDA City Center, Subhash Chowk on Sohna Road, Hero Honda Chowk, Sectors 10A, 10.9.9A, ESI Hospital, the intersection at Sector 4 and 5 (inclusive Gurgaon train station and adjacent areas), reach Sector 23, Chauma level crossing and Bijwasan border and end at the station in Dwarka Sector 21. 287,000 users are expected daily for the route. The cost is estimated at INR 54.91 billion. With the new line, IGI airport would also be easier and more reliable to reach from Gurgaon. In addition, this route would primarily relieve the insufficiently developed bus system in Gurgaon. In January 2018, part of this plan was rejected, so that only the extension of the HUDA City Center to the train station in Gurgaon is under discussion. The connection to Dwarka Sector 21 and the airport could be made at a later date via a route along the Dwarka Expressway.
