The line 5 ( "Green Line") of the Metro Delhi is the first line, which was carried out in standard gauge, in contrast to the lines 1-4, the wide gauge (mm 1676 also referred to as colonial track) are built. The line runs between Mundka and Inderlok (connection to line 1) or Kirti Nagar with connection to line 3. The route has a total of sixteen stations and a total length of 18.6 kilometers.

history

The line was opened in two steps: first the main line from Mundka to Inderlok on April 3, 2010 with a length of 15.1 kilometers. The 3.5 kilometer long branch line Kirti Nagar – Ashok Park followed on August 27, 2011. Both sections were part of Phase II. The line primarily connects the commercial and residential areas such as Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nangloi and Mundka with the center Delhis.

On August 6, 2012, the Union government of India decided to extend the line from Delhi to Bahadurgarh in Haryana with Phase III in order to improve the connection between the capital region and the surrounding area. The 11.2-kilometer route includes seven stations, four of which are in the Delhi area and three in Haryana. The section follows the Rohtak Road (NH 10) in a straight line and is designed as an elevated viaduct.

Construction work began in 2013 and the opening - originally planned for 2016 - is now planned for June 2018. Because at the end of December 2016 only 86.34 percent of the construction work had been completed. Land grabbing difficulties were cited as the main reason for the delays. With the opening of the line in June 2018, however, the connection of the depot near the Modern Industrial Estate station remains unclear, as the land could not be taken. As long as this second depot is not available, the necessary maintenance work will be carried out in the existing depot in Mundka and the trains will be parked on the route. However, not all of the required trains can be used on the new section, as there are not enough parking areas available. The clock on the new part of the route should therefore be 20-25 minutes apart and thus remain well below the usual standard of the metro. The new route section was opened on June 24, 2018 by President Modi in a video conference.

Branch line

The branch to Kirti Nagar was originally intended to shorten the travel time to change to line 3, which was initially possible by changing at the Kashmere Gate and Rajiv Chowk stations. The speed of the new connection was initially so slow that there was no time advantage. In the meantime, the speed has been increased, nonetheless, the junction relieves the transfer points, especially during rush hour.
