The line 7 (pink line) is an underground line of the Indian capital Delhi , India . It is part of the network expansion in phase III. The line has 38 stations from Majlis Park in the north of Delhi to Shiv Vihar in the north-east on the east side of the Yamuna. It will then also be the longest line on the network. It runs essentially along the Ring Road and forms a "U" around Delhi's city center. Most of the part is constructed as an elevated railway.

Line 7 will offer transfer options to most of the others, but not all transfer stations are right next to each other: the change from Punjabi Bagh West to line 5 to Punjabi Bagh is about 600 m away. There is also a distance of 1000 m between the Dhaula Kuan station of the Airport Express and the Durgabai Desmukh South Campus station. Here conveyor belts are under construction (expected completion by July 2018) to make the change easier. This is also where the highest point of the metro network is when line 7 crosses the Airport Express at a height of 23.6 meters.

history

At the end of December 2017, construction progress was already 95.36%. The line will be put into operation in several steps. The first section from Majlis Park to Durgabai Deshmuk South Campus will open on March 14, 2018. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) began the test runs on the 6.5 km section between Shakurpur and Mayapuri on June 22, 2017. The further opening is now planned in several stages: first of all, the extension of the existing line to Lajpat Nagar in order to establish the transfer connections to lines 2 and 6 (planned for the beginning of August 2018) and the opening of the section of IP Extension east of the Yamuna (or at least Trilokpuri?) To Shiv Vihar (planned for mid-September 2018). This is possible because the line has a second depot at IP Estension that can be used for the eastern section. The section between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 will be the last to follow in October 2018.

For the complete construction of the metro line, land in the area of the Trilok Puri station will be required so that the entire route can be connected. The acquisition of the land is still uncertain, as the compensation payments to the previous residents of the land are still unclear. Until then, the line will only be able to operate in two sections.

Trains coming from Majlis Park will be swept at Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 station, while those coming from Shiv Vihar will run to Trilokpuri. For the missing section of four kilometers between Trilok Puri and Vinod Nagar, there is still no schedule for the opening.

Opening progress

The section from Moti Bagh to Lajpat Nagar was inspected by the Commissioner of Railway Safety on July 23, 2018 and approved for operation after corrections. On Monday, July 29, 2018, after heavy monsoon rain, the Bikaji Cama Place station, located on the Ring Road, flooded. The storm drainage channel there could no longer absorb the water, so that it flowed back and flooded the distribution level and part of the Behnsteig level knee-deep. A crater formed in the ground in front of the station, blocking access to the station. The damage caused should be repaired by August 2nd. The section opened on August 6, 2018.

The northeast section from Shiv Viar to Trlokpuri was opened on October 31, 2018, after the safety inspection was carried out on October 20, 2018. The third section between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 will open on December 31, 2018, after the safety inspection was carried out from December 11 to 13. With the exception of the missing section at Trilokpuri, the entire route is then in operation. The land acquisition for the deficit has been clarified in court, but the viaduct has not yet been completed. A completion is expected in mid-2019.

business

At the Maujpur - Babarpur station, a four-train station has been created that already takes into account the extension to the end of the ring towards Mukundpur. Therefore, the trains coming from the south end at platform 2, which in future is intended for the trains to Mukundpur across the Yamuna. To continue in the direction of Shiv Vihar, you have to change to platform 3, where the short distance is operated in island mode between Maujpur and Shiv Vihar. There are only single-track operating lines between the two sub-lines, so that continuous operation between Shiv Vihar and Trilok Puri is not possible.

Planned expansion in phase IV

As part of the Phase IV project (implementation period approx. 2018 to 2023), the route from the Depor in Mukundpur is to be extended eastwards along the Outer Ring Road over the Yamuna to Maujpur. The 12.54-kilometer section is planned as an elevated railway and connects the northeastern districts of Biharipur, Arvind Nagar, Bhagirathi Vihar and Maujpur with the northern districts of Chandan Vihar and Model Town.

The following stations are planned: Burari Crossing, Jagatpur Village, Surghat, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur. The ring of line 7 would be closed. Since the route in North Delhi along the Outer Ring Road would run along a previously undeveloped area and is also not oriented towards the city center, the benefit is questionable, even if this section is to be treated as a priority in Phase IV. This section is particularly useful if the planned RRTS Delhi-Panipat route (a similar S-Bahn system to the Delhi area) is implemented and a transfer point is created at the Burari Crossing station. Then passengers coming from Panipat could transfer directly to the inner metro ring.
