Linton Harry Foulds

Linton Harry Foulds CBE (born March 25, 1897 in Clayton , † September 30, 1952 ) was a British diplomat .

Life

After schooling Foulds studied at Trinity College of Cambridge University , where he earned a master's degree. After passing the entrance examination on April 11, 1921, he was admitted to the British diplomatic service as a student interpreter and assigned to the British consular service in Japan on May 31, 1921 .

In Japan Foulds was first used from May 31, 1921 to November 3, 1924 as the executive vice-consul in Yokohama . He was then from August 16, 1925 to March 8, 1927 as executive vice-consul in Manila. As a substitute, he also acted there as managing consul general (April 24 to May 6, 1926 managing consul general). This was followed by assignments as executive vice consul in Kobé (June 1927 to November 5, 1928) and Oska (from June 1927). From July 26, 1929, Foulds was again used as executive vice-consul in Manila. On February 1, 1930, he was promoted to regular vice consul.

From February 9 to May 5, 1934 he was employed in the Foreign Office. On January 1, 1935, he was appointed consul (2nd class) in Manila. From March 23 to December 18, 1936, he also took on the business of the consul general there on an interim basis. On July 21, 1936 he was promoted to consul (1st class) in Dairen.

From June 4, 1941, Foulds was again employed in the Foreign Office in London. There he was appointed consul in the Foreign Office on July 16, 1942. On October 18, 1945, he was promoted to Foreign Service Officer (6th grade). Since January 1, 1946, he was a Commander of the British Empire.

On September 22, 1946, Foulds was promoted to Foreign Service officer (5th grade) and appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Minister (Minister Plenipotentiary) of the British Government in Manila. He remained in this post until his retirement on November 19, 1951.

Since 1925, Foulds was married to Catherine Mary Robinson, with whom he had a daughter.
