Liqiu Meng

Liqiu Meng ( Chinese  孟立秋 , Pinyin Mèng Lìqiū ; born October 6, 1963 in Changshu , Jiangsu ) is a German cartographer and geodesist of Chinese origin. Since 1998 she has been Professor of Cartography at the Technical University of Munich . From 2008 to 2014 she was Vice President of the Technical University of Munich for international alliances and alumni.

Life

Liqiu Meng graduated from high school and university entrance exams in China in 1978. From 1978 she studied at the "Institute for Surveying & Mapping", the "Military University of Information Engineering" in China, where in 1985 she obtained her master's degree in cartography . Between 1985 and 1988 she was a research assistant at the same institute. From 1988 to 1993 she did research at the Institute for Cartography at the University of Hanover for her doctorate as a doctoral engineer, which she completed in 1993. The topic of her doctorate was the recognition of card writing with an expert system. After a short time as a research assistant at the University of Hanover, she went from 1994 to 1996 as a “Senior Lecturer” at the “Högskolan Gävle ” in Sweden . From 1996 to 1998 Meng was "Senior GIS Consultant" at SWECO in Stockholm . In 1998 she qualified as a professor for geodesy and geoinformatics at the Royal Technical University (KTH) in Stockholm with a paper on "Automatic Generalization of Geographic Information - Methods and Data Structures". The KTH appointed her as a private lecturer . In 1998 she was appointed full professor at the chair for cartography at the Technical University of Munich, where she still teaches today. Meng has been a member of the Leopoldina since 2011 .
