Lisa McMann (born February 27, 1968 in Holland , Michigan ) is an American author.

life and career

Lisa McMann lives near Phoenix , Arizona . Her first novel, WAKE , entered the New York Times children's bestseller list. The sequel, FADE, also entered the New York Times bestseller list and stayed there for eleven weeks. The last book in the WAKE series was published in February 2010 and is titled GONE . All three books were published in English by Simon & Schuster . The books were published in German by Boje Verlag . McMann's fourth book, Cryer's Cross , was published by Simon Pulse on February 8, 2011, and the German translation of the same name was published on October 12, 2012.

McMann, a mother of two, has published many short stories, including the creative non-fiction story When You're Ten , which was published in Literary Mama, and the 2004 award-winning short story The Day of the Shoes . A year later, her story Like Waves on Rocks was published in the Gator Springs Gazette . McMann's short stories are written for adults while her novels are for teenagers.

In 2011 McMann introduced her new book series The Unwanteds . It is a dystopian fantasy series for children and adolescents, which is based on seven books. The first volume received positive reviews and was described by the American magazine Kirkus Reviews with the phrase " The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter ". The sequel to the children's book, The Unwanteds: Island of Silence , appeared on September 4, 2012, while the third part, The Unwanteds: Island of Fire, was released a year later on September 3, 2013. The fourth part The Unwanteds: Island of Legends was released in September 2014 and the fifth with the title The Unwanteds: Island of Shipwrecks in February 2015. The sixth volume was released in autumn 2015 and the seventh and last in spring 2016. So far the series is not published in German.

McMann announced another new book series, Visions , in June 2012 . The first volume of the trilogy is entitled Crash and was released on January 8, 2013. The second part, Bang , was released on October 8, 2013 and the last volume, Gasp, on June 3, 2014. The series is about Jules, who is plagued by visions. in which people are killed. The series has not yet appeared in German.

A spin-off series for The Unwanteds , which continues the story ten years after the events from the books, was announced in 2016. The series is titled The Unwanteds Quests and the first volume, Dragon Captives , was released in February 2017. So far, two sequels have followed; Dragon Bones in February 2018 and Dragon Ghosts in February 2019. This series has not yet been translated into German.

Trivia

  • The second and third parts of the WAKE series were given a different title in German; "FADE" became "DREAM" and "GONE" became "SLEEP", which led to confusion among the German fans. A reason for this change is unknown.
  • In German means (according to the books): WAKE = awake, FADE = fade, GONE = gone, DREAM = dream and SLEEP = sleep
