Lisa Strausfeld (* 1964 in New Jersey, USA ) is an American information architect, data visualization entrepreneur and Managing Director of Informationart.

biography

Strausfeld studied art history and computer science at Brown University , followed by a degree in architecture from Harvard University and a degree in media arts and sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). There she became an assistant at the Visible Language Workshop of the Media Lab , founded by Muriel Cooper , where she examined and developed methods for conveying and processing complex information. She was able to develop this interest in the software company Perspecta , which she co-founded in 1996 . There arose Visual user interfaces that great when handling and organization amounts of information should help. When the company was sold to Excite @ Home, Strausfeld switched to the online entertainment company Quokka Sports . In 2002 she became a partner at Pentagram - so far the only female next to Paula Scher . Strausfeld teaches at Yale University and the Tisch School of the Arts ( New York University ).

Works

Strausfeld often works in collaboration with other companies, on the development of software and websites as well as complex installations. She also regularly visualizes information for the New York Times . Her work is often discussed outside of the design scene, as it has a socio-political dimension, such as the design of ›Sugar‹, the graphical user interface for › One Laptop per Child ‹, or the website design for the Gallup market and opinion research institute. In 2008 her work was part of the exhibition ›Design and the Elastic Mind‹ at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

2018 worked Straus field with Glowbox, a design studio in Portland, Oregon , working to a virtual reality - prototypes to develop, which is a three-dimensional timeline of the history of women, based on The New Historia, a woman historical project of Gina Luria Walker at the New School where Strausfeld is a Senior Research Fellow.
