Rakipsiz (tr. For: "Unreached" ) is the tenth studio album by the Turkish singer Demet Akalın . It was released on November 7, 2016 and is named after the song of the same name. Rakipsiz was released by the Doğan Music Company label and was Akalın 's second album after Pırlanta , which was released under this label.
Background and origin
Demet Akalın's previous studio album, which was released in 2015 under the title Pırlanta, was a commercial success, especially in Turkey. The album has sold around 105,000 units to date and was awarded a gold record. Six of a total of fourteen songs were released as single releases; In addition, six music videos were released for each of the songs. It was recorded and created in several recording studios in Istanbul , including Volga Tamöz's Studio, Marşandiz Studios and Stüdyo Hiperaktif.
Work on the new album began in spring 2016. Akalın u. a. with producers Sinan Akçıl and Volga Tamöz . As later became known, the album should mark Akalın's 20-year music career. According to Akalın, the title and cover of the album are from her Twitter and Facebook accounts. During the creation in the studio, she shared teasers on the individual songs of Rakipsiz on her social media profiles . In the summer, Akalın confirmed that the album should be released in autumn 2016.
Promotion and publication
Akalın published a short teaser and later a music video for the lead single Hayalet on YouTube and other internet platforms in early November 2016 . The cover of the album also appeared on social networks and was also featured on posters in Istanbul and other Turkish cities. On November 13th, six days after the publication, Akalın performed live during the 43rd Altın Kelebek Awards and interpreted the song Hayalet . The following year, on January 9, 2017, the music video for Ah Ulan Sevda was released. The videos of the singles Nazar , Damga Damga and Bu Defa Son were released between September 2017 and October 2018.
Rakipsiz was officially released as a standard version on November 11, 2016; the album was released on the Spotify platform on November 14th. During a promotional concert, Akalın said in an interview: “Gülşen decided to write and produce a new song for the album. […] I did not expect that; however, she told me it has been twenty years since I was in the music business. I told Gülşen that I would wait until she had finished writing the song to publish it. Gülşen is a great artist and I really appreciate her work. [...] ". In an interview with presenter Özge Ulusoy from Lifetime Turkey magazine, she said: “We didn't postpone the release date because of the song that Gülşen wrote and produced. She didn't add Ah Ulan Sevda until the album was finished. […] Gülşen pointed out that she had already finished the song a long time beforehand. However, there was a misunderstanding ”.

The album received mostly positive reviews. Ali Eyüboğlu from Milliyet magazine wrote: “There is no song on the album that sounds futile or even soft. Sixteen songs written and produced by other artists! Simply great. "Above Budak von Habertürk rated the album positively and added:" Rakipsiz is an album that Demet Akalın has worked hard and hard for and that is of a high standard. Content and musical structure
The music album has a running time of about one hour and contains sixteen songs that are sung in Turkish. In contrast to the previous albums , Rakipsiz does not contain a remix version of a song or a bonus track. All songs belong to the genre pop ; but there are also influences from dance pop. The lyrics are about love and pain, as well as feelings of loneliness. The lead single Hayalet was written and composed by the Turkish singer and songwriter Gülşen . Akalın later announced on her Twitter account that the Turkish singer Edis has a guest appearance in the music video and can be seen as a background singer. In the song Gazino , a live recording by Mehmet Ali Erbil and Fatih Ürek was used at the beginning of the song. The voice of the Turkish singer and producer Sinan Akçıl can be heard at the beginning of Dürbün . Akçıl himself wrote the lyrics for Dürbün and played the music.
Single releases
- Hayalet
The lead single Hayalet (tr. For: "Geist" ) was released on November 11, 2016 as the first of five single releases. The song reached number 1 in the Turkish single charts and placements on numerous radio charts, including Yerel Radyo and Radyo Viva. Due to the high positions in the charts, Hayalet is the most successful of the album. The songwriter and producer Ozan Çolakoğlu and the singer and songwriter Gülşen were involved in the production. Müjdat Küpşi directed the music video that appeared on YouTube.
- Ah Ulan Sevda
Ah Ulan Sevda (tr. For: "Ah, it's Ulanenliebe" ) appeared as the second release about three months later after Hayalet on January 9, 2017. It reached number 7 in the Turkey Top 20 charts. Songwriter Ayla Çelik wrote the lyrics; Gökhan Tepe composed and played the music. After a music video had already been created for the previous song Hayalet , Akalın decided to shoot a second video for Ah Ulan Sevda . The director Nihat Odabaşı took over the shooting. According to information, the clip was created within 24 hours and released on January 9, 2017. On the occasion of the 44th Altın Kelebek award ceremony, the video received a nomination in the “Best Music Video” category.
In February 2018, the video was temporarily blocked by the TRT in Turkey. According to the broadcasting company, there is no clearly definable reason for the censorship, but according to a list from TRT, the song is said to be morally unsuitable and / or even connected to terrorist activities.
- Damga Damga
With Damga Damga (tr. For: "Abdruck, Abdruck" ), the third single of the album followed on September 22, 2017. Compared to the two previous tracks Hayalet and Ah Ulan Sevda , the single could not achieve a chart position. The songwriter and producer Murat Güneş and the composer Volga Tamöz were involved in the production of the song. The music video was recorded under the direction of Müjdat Küpşi and published on YouTube on the same day.
- Nazar
Nazar (tr. For: "Blick" ) was released on December 10, 2016 as the fourth single from the album. The song reached number 6 in the Turkish top 20 charts. The song was composed and written by Gökhan Özen. The music video, which was released on March 20, 2017, was directed by Nihat Odabaşı. The shooting took place u. a. held in Istanbul. The design and make-up, for which Önder Tiryaki was responsible, received many positive comments and feedback on social media. At the 44th Altın Kelebek award ceremony, Nazar's video was nominated next to Ah Ulan Sevda in the “Best Music Video” category.
- Bu Defa Son
Bu Defa Son (tr. For: "The last time" ) is the fifth and final single and was released on October 29, 2018. In addition to the single Damga Damga, it also did not reach the top 20 charts. Producer Gözde Ançel and singer Buray were involved in the production of the song . Metin Boyraz directed the music video. The clip appeared on the YouTube platform on the same day as the single itself.
