Gülşen Bayraktar (born May 29, 1976 in Istanbul , stage name Gülşen ) is a Turkish pop singer who uses arabesque elements. In order to achieve a correct pronunciation of her name outside of Turkey, she sometimes uses the spelling Gülshen.

life and career

Gülşen grew up with her older sister and brother in their parents' house, which is in the Fatih district of Istanbul. The family originally comes from Ordu. Gülşen studied at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi . After graduating, she started performing in some bars and clubs. As a result, some managers from the Turkish music and production industry became aware of them. Her first record deal was with Raks Musik .

In 1996 Gülşen Bayraktar married her manager Murat Varol , from whom she later divorced. After the marriage, she had relationships with her former record boss Erol Köse and the presenter and model Reha Muhtar . After their difficult relationships, she tended to focus on the music and thus began to write her own songs. In 2010 she met the producer Ozan Çolakoglu , who works with other artists such as Tarkan , Ajda Pekkan and Murat Boz and who married Gülşen in Barcelona in 2016 . There is a son from this marriage. The son's name is Azur Benan Colakoglu.

Since changing her image in 2004, she has had regular problems with the Turkish Media Supervisory Authority (RTÜK) because of her music videos, in which she mostly appears very scantily clad. Her private life is widely reported in the Turkish tabloid media.

Concerts

In 2015 she broke the record for the fastest ticket sales for her performance in the Harbiye Open Air Arena, which is only available for the Hall of Fame of the music scene in Turkey. Her Bostancı Gösteriş Merkezi concerts in 2015 and 2018 were also sold out within about two hours. The Queen of Turkish Pop concerts are also very popular on the European continent. From 2015 to 2018 she mainly headed for cities such as Berlin , Hamburg , Munich , Stuttgart , Cologne , Mannheim , Paris , Lyon , Amsterdam , Rotterdam , The Hague , Vienna , Zurich , Bern and Linz . The Turkish woman's concerts are also very popular in the Scandinavian countries. Visitors are mainly Turks or citizens from the Balkans or the Orient.

According to the Turkish media, the personal gain from the concerts is estimated at around 2.5 million euros .

Others

After a conflict between Gülşen Bayraktar and the record producer Erol Köse, the singer tried to prematurely end the contract with the record company of the same name Erol Köse. At first she did not succeed. The record company then released the sixth studio album Mucize against their will , which was released in late 2006 / early 2007. The recordings were made before the argument. Since this album was released against the singer's wishes, she refused to star in her own music video for Adı Aşk Sebebimin . It is only shown in excerpts in this video, material that has not yet been used has been used. In the same year she finally managed to change the record company. She also managed to stop the production of the album Mucize . The album will still be offered.

This conflict was reflected in one of her songs. Kara böcükler's lyrics are about Gülsen's had enough of the media. She was fed up with the media chase. In the text she mentions these black insects and cats that bring misfortune into the lives of others and enjoy it. This topic is also reproduced in the accompanying video. In the video for Kara Böcükler you can see her lightly dressed as she throws her studio album Mucize into a washing machine. In addition, scandal titles and magazines in which Gülsen appears are repeatedly displayed. At the end of the video you can see Gülsen presenting her new album Ama bir Farkla. With this she would like to encourage buyers not to buy her album Mucize , which was released in the same year , but the Ama bir Farkla that she produced . In an interview about the release of the music video, Gülsen announced that she prefers to provide an answer about your music. She also announced that she deliberately did not address any direct people in the video. She gives this song to everyone who is spoken to.
