Life

Origin and family

Lisa von Katzenelnbogen grew up as the daughter of Count Gerhard von Katzenelnbogen (* 1273, † 1312) and Margaretha von der Mark (daughter of Eberhard von der Mark ) with her three siblings in a count family . Her grandfather was Eberhard von Katzenelnbogen . Hermann von Katzenelnbogen came from this family. He was the first prince-bishop of Munster .

Career and work

Lisa was abbess in the Nottuln Abbey from 1327 to 1357 and was first documented in this position on April 9, 1327. She remained in office until her death. Her grave was in the St. Catharinae chapel in the side wing of the monastery. During and after her term of office, the economic situation in the monastery was so tense that the position of abbess remained vacant several times over a long period of time. There are only a few documents from her predecessor Jutta von Holte (abbess from 1309 to 1327). Lisa von Solms followed her in office.
