Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann (born August 12, 1904 in Duisburg , † January 21, 1995 in Erkrath ) was a German portrait, figure and landscape painter as well as costume designer and wife of the artist Werner Schramm . She belonged to the international artist group " Peintres de la Réalité ", which later developed into the "Mouvement Trompe-l'œil / Réalité" and was a member of the Düsseldorf Artists Association and an honorary member of the Düsseldorf Artists' Association.

Life

Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann was the daughter of Rheinhold Heckmann (1873–1964) and Amélie Heckmann nee. Schumm (1880-1967). Rheinhold Heckmann grew up in Berlin and moved to Duisburg in 1888 , then to Bonn in 1897 , where he met Amélie Schumm. Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann was born in Duisburg in 1904 and had two brothers: Carl-Justus (1902–1993) and Fritz (* 1907). The three children grew up together in Duisburg, where their father worked.

Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann tried painting and drawing at an early age. Her mother supported her from a young age, influenced by Hans Thoma and Albert Schweitzer , she made her drawing lessons possible with Fritz Linde, where she met 16-year-old Werner Schramm at the age of 10 . From then on they met to draw, paint and cut paper cuttings together . In 1915, for example, Werner Schramm made a drawing showing Liselotte Heckmann at the age of ten. During the First World War , Amélie Heckmann organized an exhibition in memory of the fallen art teacher Fritz Linde at the grammar school where Fritz Linde had taught and which Werner Schramm attended and was supported by his student Werner Schramm.

Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann experienced the end of the First World War at the age of 14. She described the time afterwards as "difficult times with hunger and dysentery, civil war and passive resistance against the occupation". In 1921, she finished her schooling at the Höhere Töchterschule and then concentrated on studying painting. Hans Rilke valued her as a teacher very much, he was “very versatile, didn't try to push his students in a certain direction, but let them unfold in their own personal way.” By contrast, she showed little sympathy for his socially critical work. Later also learned from Marie Henrici in Alsbach.

From 1923, Liselotte Heckmann supported the work of her later husband Werner Schramm, who worked there as a set designer, as a costume artist at the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf and other theaters. Until 1925 they worked on stages in Hamborn, Mönchengladbach, Oberhausen and Gladbeck. They got married in 1925. Both of them finished their work at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in order to dedicate themselves only to free painting from now on. From 1925 to 1926 they lived for study purposes first in Fiesole near Florence and later from 1926 to 1931 in Meudon near Paris . In 1931 the couple moved to Düsseldorf and in the following years exhibited their art at home and abroad (including in Düsseldorf, Dresden and Paris / France).

During the years abroad, Liselotte Schramm-Heckmann worked with Werner Schramm on a technique that allows a variety of objects to be captured in their colored reality: people and landscape, often connected, flowers and still lifes were the tasks that she set herself and has solved, including often family and children portraits. The basis of all portraits is always an exact drawing built on the line, the frames of which fit into the well-coordinated levels of color. She was associated with the international group of "Peintres de la réalité" until her death. As a teacher, she has passed on her skills in many ways.
