Liselotte Schreiner ( June 19, 1904 in Prague - February 15, 1991 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theater actress . She was considered a great tragedy of the 1930s and 1940s.

Growing up in Mannheim , she took on her first engagement at the Gotha City Theater in 1926 , then took acting lessons from her father Carl Schreiner in Weimar and came via Meiningen (1927–1928), Karlsruhe (1928–1931), Bochum (1931–1933), Wiesbaden (1933–1934) and Essen (1934–1937) in 1937 at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Her significant roles included Kleist's Penthesilea , Grillparzer's Sappho , Helena in Faust II , Rhodope in Hebbels Gyges und seine Ring , Orsina in Emilia Galotti , Sophocles ' Elektra , Euripides' Medea , Klytämnestra in Hofmannsthals Elektra and Queen Margarete in King Ottokar's Glück und Ende . In 1940 Schreiner followed a call to the Volksbühne in Berlin, from 1943 she worked at the Vienna Burgtheater , of which she was a long-time member of the ensemble.

At the Salzburg Festival in 1943 she embodied the Iphigenia on Tauris in a production by Otto Falckenberg , in 1953 the Calpurnia in Julius Caesar directed by Josef Gielen and from 1970 to 1972 Jedermann's mother in the Jedermann production by Leopold Lindtberg on Domplatz. In 1954, Schreiner also took part in the Fledermaus at the Bregenz Festival .

She was also seen in the film, for example in 1942 she starred in The Golden City , in 1954 she was in Around the Ninth Hour and in 1959 she starred in a film adaptation of Maria Stuart .

In 1990 she donated the Liselotte-Schreiner-Ring , which was first awarded to Judith Holzmeister in 1991 .

Liselotte Schreiner's grave of honor is located in Vienna's central cemetery .
