Lisl Engels (born March 16, 1916 in Vienna ; † April 11, 2006 in Thalgauegg , Land Salzburg ) was an Austrian painter . Her work was shaped by Expressionism .

Life

Lisl Engel's father was the Mödling doctor Karl Cech. She attended the girls' college in Eisentorgasse . She was artistically active since early youth; it received its artistic stamping from the painter Robin Christian Andersen . She entered Andersen's studio as the youngest student at the age of 14, and it was here that she took her first steps in still life and life drawing . Engels attended the Vienna School of Applied Arts and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Andersen 's view, which was based on Paul Cézanne's late work , of depicting nature in an orderly, sometimes arranged structure, remained connected to Lisl Engels throughout his life.

In 1939 she married the architect Erich Engels (born June 25, 1910, † January 8, 1993) and moved with him from Vienna to Bad Gastein , followed by a move to Salzburg in 1946 . Between 1942 and 1944, Engels worked intensively with Franz Wiegele in the Nötscher district . She also had encounters with the painters Herbert Boeckl , Anton Kolig and Oskar Kokoschka . This also had an important artistic influence on her. Since 1974 Lisl Engels lived with her family in Thalgauegg.

Lisl Engel's works can be found in the collections of the Salzburg state government and the Oesterreichische Nationalbank .
