List of 37 drug lords (Mexico)

On March 23, 2009, the Mexican Attorney General ( Procurador General de la República ) published a list of 37 drug lords . For information that served to arrest these people, a reward of 30 million pesos was offered for 22 people and a reward of 15 million pesos for 15 people. The list has not been amended or supplemented since then.

At the end of President Felipe Calderón's term of office , 17 people on this list had been arrested by Mexican security forces ( Navy, Army , Federal Police ) and seven were killed. Two of them were believed to have been murdered by other drug cartels.

Since Enrique Peña Nieto's presidency began on December 1, 2012, six other drug lords have been arrested, particularly in February 2014 the most wanted drug lord in thirteen years, El Chapo , who escaped from prison in July 2015. He was arrested again on January 8, 2016. Nazario Moreno ( El Chayo ), who was allegedly shot in December 2010, was killed in 2014 .
