Ensembles
Ensemble Kloster Oberelchingen and Klostersteige
The ensemble includes the monastery district of the former imperial abbey of Elchingen together with the connecting road to the associated village of Oberelchingen, called Klostersteige, which was only built in the course of the 18th century. The important abbey was built on the site of the castle on a side line of the Counts of Dillingen, to which a Benedictine monastery previously located in the valley on the Danube was relocated around 1140/50. The very prosperous abbey gained imperial immediacy in 1484 and existed until 1803. The Romanesque abbey church, now the parish church, and large parts of the medieval enclosing walls of the monastery in the north, east and south on the steep slope above the Danube lowlands have been preserved from the founding time today illustrate the castle-like location. Since most of the convent buildings were demolished after the secularization, only parts of the farm yard in the north-west with the brewery and the gate building in the south-west of the cloister courtyard, which today presents itself as a large, tree-lined space in front of the church, remained of the old system of the monastery next to the church. The ensemble includes the Klostersteige, the town's main street leading down the mountain from the gate, with office buildings and residential buildings for the former monastery officials and craftsmen, with a former pharmacy and inn. This slightly curved street, which rises sharply from southwest to northeast, is mostly built on its northern side with mostly two-storey gable roof houses, which are staggered and slightly offset from the street on the eaves. The smoothly plastered, unadorned buildings show less historical substance than more the floor plan and elevation structure of the buildings of the 18th century. In this line, the most easterly position is taken by the towering former office building and current school building, further to the west is the former monastery judge's house, at the western end of the street the Gasthof Krone. On the slope of Elchinger Berg below the monastery, Napoleon won a decisive battle against the Austrian army under General Mack on October 14, 1805, which led to the surrender of Ulm. Napoleon had his headquarters here at the level of the abbey. File number; Number = E-7-75-139-1.

Remarks
- ↑ This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
